This is not necessarily surprising, but Nissan's Leaf is the World Car of the Year for 2011. Despite being the cleanest car in the world the Chevrolet Volt (which still pollutes) has received the World Green Car trophy. Some consider it injustice, others think it's well deserved since the Leaf has some serious "range anxiety" while the gas engine in the Volt can keep it running for considerably longer journeys.

On the non green side of the automotive world, the Ferrari 458 Italia has been declared the World Performance Car, single handedly beating the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG & Porsche 911 Turbo - no easy feat.
