The Honda 2010 Insight hybrid, which made its sales debut in the US in limited quantities on 24 March, posted sales of 569 units through the end of the month.
The Insight, which carries an EPA rating of 40/43/41 city/highway/combined miles per gallon, has an MSRP of $19,800, excluding tax, license, registration, destination charges and options.
Sales of the Insight in Japan, which began in February, have been brisk, and have helped the automaker weather the slump there. Last week, Honda said that it had received orders for 21,000 Insights in Japan. To keep up with the strong demand, the company’s Suzuka factory in Mie Prefecture has been producing 600 Insights a day. Honda is now dedicating 40% of the factory’s capacity to making the hybrid vehicles.
